A colleague of mine sent this to me, and I have enjoyed thinking about it, and will soon be presenting it to my class for a discussion, but wanted to open it up to your thoughts first

I wouldn’t say it is inevitable, but it may be true. Probably not to the extent of throwing others over a cliff into an abyss though. There are people that seem to “need” to have what other people have, making them stand out among others, and they might step on or over anyone just to achieve that “need”. Like any other urge in life you can ignore it.
